Daily water requirement
Volume per day for irrigation, livestock, households or institutions sets the pumping duty.
Solar water pumping
Boreholes for farms, schools, health facilities and communities often run on expensive diesel. StimaPulse sizes the pump, solar array and storage from your head and daily water demand, and shows the cost per cubic metre.
Volume per day for irrigation, livestock, households or institutions sets the pumping duty.
Static water level, drawdown, discharge elevation, pipe friction (Hazen-Williams) and outlet pressure are combined into the head the pump must deliver.
Hydraulic energy and pump efficiency give the electrical power the motor needs, avoiding undersized pumps that cannot reach the tank.
The array is sized from pump energy, peak sun hours and regional heat and soiling derates.
How solar sizing worksCompare elevated tank storage with battery autonomy for night-time or cloudy-day supply.
Battery storage guideLevelized cost of water and diesel fuel displacement make the comparison with your current pump clear.
Start with the daily water volume you need and the total dynamic head: the static water level, drawdown while pumping, the height to the tank or outlet, pipe friction and any required outlet pressure. Pump power follows from flow and head, and the PV array is sized from pump energy and the site's peak sun hours.
TDH is the total height the pump must lift water, including the depth to water while pumping, the elevation to the outlet, friction losses in the pipe and the pressure needed at the outlet. StimaPulse calculates pipe friction using the Hazen-Williams method.
Storing water in an elevated tank is usually cheaper and longer-lasting than storing electricity in batteries for pumping. StimaPulse compares tank storage with battery autonomy so you can choose the lower-cost option for your hours of supply.
StimaPulse estimates the diesel fuel a solar pump displaces and the levelized cost of water per cubic metre, so you can compare it directly with your current generator running costs.
