EV charging

Charging that fits the fleet, the grid and the budget.

Electric buses, delivery vans, matatus and motorcycles only work if charging matches routes, dwell times and site power. StimaPulse turns fleet schedules into charging demand, connection scenarios and a phased infrastructure plan.

Demand

Start from routes and dwell time

Daily distance, vehicle battery size and parking windows decide energy and charging power per vehicle.

  • Depot and overnight charging
  • Opportunity and fast charging
  • Phased fleet growth
Coincidence

Size for simultaneous charging

Not every vehicle charges at once. Charging-window and coincidence analysis prevents oversized chargers, transformers and connection upgrades.

Grid

Check the site can supply it

Charging load is added to the existing site demand to test transformer, protection and connection limits before equipment is ordered.

Tariff

Charge when power is cheapest

The KPLC e-mobility tariff and time-of-use windows reward night and off-peak charging. Scenarios show the cost of different charging schedules.

Energy

Add solar and storage where it pays

Solar can cover daytime charging and batteries can cap peak demand. Compare them against grid-only charging with the same assumptions.

How solar sizing works
Procurement

Specify what suppliers must prove

OCPP, load management, metering, alarms, reporting, safety, warranties, support and training become structured requirements you can score suppliers against.

Frequently asked questions

How much charging power does an electric fleet need?

It depends on how much energy each vehicle uses per day, how long vehicles are parked, and how many charge at the same time. StimaPulse models charging windows and coincidence, so you do not pay for chargers and grid capacity the fleet will never use simultaneously.

What is the difference between AC and DC charging?

AC chargers rely on the vehicle's onboard charger and suit long dwell times such as overnight depot or workplace charging. DC chargers deliver higher power directly to the battery and suit short turnaround times, but cost more and place a larger load on the site supply.

Is there a special electricity tariff for EV charging in Kenya?

Yes. Kenya Power has a dedicated e-mobility tariff for EV charging, with lower night-time rates on the time-of-use schedule. See our reviewed tariff page for the rates and sources we use, and check the current gazetted values before signing contracts.

Can solar panels power EV charging?

Solar can supply daytime charging directly and reduce grid energy costs, while batteries can shift solar to evening charging or reduce peak demand. StimaPulse compares solar, storage, grid and charging schedules together.

What should EV charger suppliers provide?

At minimum: OCPP support for charger management, load management, metering and alarms, safety certification, warranties, local support and spares, training, and a path to expand. StimaPulse helps you turn these into structured supplier requirements and compare responses.
